I acquired a 1995 DX 26 model (I think) vita spa last year through Craigslist. I knew when I bought it that it would have to be wired in instead of plugging in to the wall. The only reasons I went ahead were because my landlord had told me the lines in the wall near it would be capable of supporting the electrical load to run it and the whole spa was only 200 bucks. At the time I thought I could get 2-3 years of use out of it before it kicked the bucket and I could have it hauled away when I moved out. My problem is of course that my landlord was wrong about the power lines and I would need to run bigger ones and install a small 50 amp breaker to provide ground fault protection. Everyone I have spoken to wants 4-5 hundred for the job. A friend has said he could do it for a few beers but he would run some lines off the 50 amp box already outside for the pool. I don't know enough to tell if that would work safely. He says I could run the tub when the pool isn’t running and it would be the same thing. Any help both with my friend’s idea and other ways to do it myself at a lower cost would be greatly appreciated.
