Bioengineered Glowing Silk #Biohacking

This work was exhibited at Gucci’s gallery space in Tokyo. The innovation doesn’t stop with glowing silk, Sputniko is also working with researchers to produce a silk that smells of roses as well as a silk that contains oxytocin called “The Love Silk”. Via Sputniko

This fluorescent silk, developed by researchers at NIAS in 2008, can be made by injecting silkworm eggs with jellyfish or coral DNA. We collaborated with Hosoo, a traditional 1200 years old Nishijin-ori textile manufacturer based in Kyoto, to create a fabric woven from the Glowing Silk. Amy’s dress and shoes are made of this new material and designed by Masaya Kushino.
