Polish photographer, Pawla Zaluska created a whimsical video with frozen bubbles. via wired
His daughter loves soap bubbles, so after tucking her into bed, he ventured out into the 5-degree night for a little experiment. He mixed a solution of water, shampoo and agave syrup, which he’d read makes the bubbles stronger. The ice within a frozen water bottle became a stage, illuminated with a few LED flashlights. Zaluska set up his Canon EOS 6D with a 24-70 f/2.8L lens and Canon extension tube, and started shooting.
Over the next hour, Zaluska blew bubbles on the ice, always stepping back quickly to film them as they froze. It took around 10 seconds for each bubble to freeze, and there was a lot of trail and (mostly) error. “Many of them just popped before I could capture the whole process,” he says.
The reward for his patience is a video that captures the whimsical charm of winter. Bubbles spin and dance as they react to the cold, geometric crystals fluttering across their surfaces like flakes in a snow globe. Each suddenly freezes in motion, overtaken by the cold but still beautiful.
