Following up with my previous post (https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY/comments/3wdvuk/another_tv_mount_question/) I've finally had time to work on this and run into a few things that concern me.
For starters, when I was finding the edges with the stud finder, the difference between the edge of the top and bottom mount holes was about about a quarter inch. Did I get the one magical stud that warped in the wall? I tried locating the edge several times in both directions and got the same results. I feel I'm 95 percent sure I hit the middle (or damn close), but that leads me to my next question...
When I finally went to put in the lag bolt on that same stud, I could hear a slight... Cracking? Popping? Hell, I don't know what it was, but it eventually stopped and both top and bottom lag bolts are very secure.
Finally, I mounted my old broken LCD on it to give it a load test. After about an hour I came back and saw there's a slight bulge in the drywall in the gap been the top and bottom mounts. Could this be the noise I was hearing?
I apologize for asking what's probably considered stupid questions, but I kind of bit off more than I can chew with this and I'm not looking to see my large investment laying in the floor with a hole in the wall!
