Edit 2: Here's the solution I'll be going with! Full original post follows.
Hello /r/DIY,
I'm not much of a gadget builder outside of building PCs, I usually always just buy made stuff. Today I got the idea that I'm going to build a gameboy emulator inside of the original DMG-01 Gameboy case.
I've come to the question of how to power the thing.
Facts:
* I'm using the Raspberry Pi B+ which requires a 1.8 A current capacity and either 3.3V or 5V, not sure on that yet.
* I'm going with this display which is supposedly powered by the Pi board.
* Someone who made it work in a Gameboy Color case recommended this switching regulator to make the Raspberry Pi consume less power, this step up converter to do I have no idea what, this 5V charging board, and this battery. They also included a diagram of how that was wired.
Now my questions are more or less:
1) Is this sufficient to power my planned gameboy-pi monstrosity, or where can I learn how to answer that for myself?
2) Is that battery actually even safe to use in the first place?
3) Is ANY battery even safe to use for a project like this in the first place?
Thank you for any information or leads to information! I want to build this, but I also want to not explode a battery in my pocket or burn the house down.
Edit: I suppose I could always use something like a MicroUSB batter pack?
