Basically, I'm framing in a back porch that had columns supporting the roof. The columns are concrete block. I just want to put sheet rock around them, but that involves a lot of attaching of firing strips and I'm finding that the columns aren't square, so the sheet rock isn't going to be square.

I'm almost thinking that it would make more sense, and be stronger, to make wood plank boxes around these columns. Just three pieces of wood, and they can help support each other, so the underlying uneven surfaces of the column don't matter as much. My wife is just worried about differing textures but after it's painted, I don't think anyone would notice.
