I have an old balloon framed house - there is a fireblock between the floors but the second floor stud bays are open to the attic. Makes dropping wires easy, but makes keeping the house warm hard. Is there a problem with just taking a bunch of 2x4's and nailing them in as caps in the attic and sealing with foam? Would this cause any mold or moisture problems? Living in Minnesota btw.
Ive seen some places suggest it but I cant get a consistent enough answer. I don't want to spend the $$$$ to blow insulation in when ill never realize my savings vs cost in a normal timeframe. I figure capping will at least curb the chimney effects
