I recently turned my heater on and it wouldn't produce heat. We turned the breaker off, and reset it - the heat came on! but there was a horrible fish smell filling up the living room. the breaker for the heater looks shiny (melted plastic maybe?)
what steps do I need to take now? I have turned the breaker off and the switch to the heater, so I will suffer in the cold tonight. that's fine. I just don't want to start a fire..
so why the fish smell? should I call an electrician, or can we do it ourselves (swap the breakers)?
boyfriend is gung ho about doing it on the cheap and by himself, but I am not comfortable with his knowledge/ experience and would rather pay $$ than see him injured
