If you long for screen accuracy in your costumes, the cost of attaining it can be prohibitive. Matching the screen or hitting a prop replica quality level isn’t a requirement when you cosplay, but some cosplayers want to show off that kind of craftsmanship either by making it themselves or purchasing it from others. For those who strive for screen accuracy, Hasbro and Marvel have teamed up for a new line that might spark change in the world of cosplay.
They’re working together to make Marvel Legends role play items such as Captain America’s shield and Iron Man’s helmet for $100 each. They’ll be available in the fall, probably in time for Halloween, and the affordable props are completely functional — as in wearable, Cap’s shield isn’t made of Vibranium. For example, the Iron Man helmet has a removable face plate with light and sound effects powered by batteries. You could wear or carry these props as is or use them as a jumping point for modification. And remember, even though building stuff is awesome, it doesn’t make someone less of a cosplayer to purchase pre-made items.
