I have made a paver walkway using concrete squares. It is all level and square, and aside from the small mountain of dirt in my front yard, everything looks great. But as I understand it, in order to get the pavers locked into place, I am supposed to get sand between the joints. I need to do this to lock the pavers in place and keep them from shifting slightly as I walk on them.
My problem is that the sand I am using is not going into the cracks. I have placed each paver right up against each other, and I am thinking this is the problem. I am just using a standard bag of paver sand from the hardware store.
My research tells me that I should be using a polymeric sand. I am happy to go buy some, despite the expense, I only need a little bit of it. However, will it fit between the small cracks (about 1/16th an inch if that) between my pavers? I cannot find any information on how close pavers can be to get sand between them. It looks like the paver sand I am using is a bit wet and just clumps and sticks to the top of the pavers without falling into the crack.
Did not think this would be a problem when I started, so i am a little concerned I just screwed the whole thing up something simple. Will polymeric sand make a difference? Does it matter how I sweep it in?
