Help- Stain absorption

I've made a table top that I am trying to get as deep as possible of an espresso stain color to match my other furniture. It is red oak plywood, it was sanded down nice and smooth. I started with min wax brand stain but it was going on very light. I switched to a varathane brand '3x' stronger stain. I've gotten to about 75% to the depth I desire but it will not go deeper. The stain can definitely go darker but the wood is now too stubborn.

I've put on about 20+ coats. I've tried thick goopy coats and let them sit for an hour. I've tried rapid thin coats. Redcoats while it's wet, and letting it dry a week between coats.

I was at IKEA and saw something they called 'glazing paint' which seems to be an Linseed oil based stain. In desperation I tried it. It just slicked up on the wood and I wiped it all off immediately.

What can I try? I don't want to paint it since I want to keep the grain. Should I try sanding it or using a chemical stripper? Is it possible some sort of film has built up and is blocking further absorption?

Thanks!
