I have an unfinished basement in a newer construction home. My preference for looks and maximum ceiling height is to drywall the ceiling instead of installing a suspended ceiling.
The ceiling is fairly clean in terms of there only being a couple of areas (i-beam, hvac) that will need to be boxed in.
My question is:
Should I attach the drywall directly to the floor joists or should I fur out the floor joists with 2x2's (or something) and attach the drywall to the 2x2's? The joists seem straight enough at first glance (photo), but there are a couple of areas where attachments are not exactly even (photo) and I'm not sure if that will cause me any problems.
